The coarseness of the ground contrasts nicely with the models smooth skin. Her pose is perfect, and the light is just right. (The shadows are just where you would want them.) I like the orange band of rocks cutting the middle of the shot, though i’m not sure why.

Untitled by Jay Parkinson

The yellow and the red of the flowers go nicely together.
I love all the red in the shot: the horizontal stripe at the bottom of the image, the stop sign, and the lady and her dog. It all really pops in comparison to the muted cityscape.

Clotario Blest, trade unionist and human rights activist, 1983...

Clotario Blest, trade unionist and human rights activist, 1983 by Marcelo Montecino

This is a lovely sun lit scene. The worn out blues and greys of the walls match Clotario Blest’s outfit quite nicely. The age of the surroundings seems to mirror Blest’s age. The cat sitting on the floor adds something I like, though I’m not quite sure what. The position of the cat, Blest, and the glass door, all along the main diagonal of the frame also strikes me as a good compositional choice.

I need to be more diligent with my posting on this site.

Walker Art by John Goldsmith

Each mans feet seem perfectly placed. It’s a very lucky moment. The last fellow looking over invites you in to the scene. The colours are all quite muted. The men really stand out in the black suits. Except for some dead space on the left, I think this photograph is pretty great. (And really, i’m not sure it look as balanced if the scene was cropped differently.)

Untitled by Jared Iorio

The couple make the shot, but there is a lot going on in this photo. There are so many people each doing their own thing who have all been neatly place in the shot. I like the strong light and deep shadows that are cast throughout the frame. I think the only thing lacking is that Jared Iorio didn’t manage to cram something great in the top right corner of the frame.

Bull by Anurag Agnihotri

The bull sits heavy in the picture, in contrast to the women stepping through the frame. She has been caught in a very graceful pose. The men in the background finish a great capture. I love the red of the boat. This is a nice well composed shot.

Agnihotri is channeling some Raghubir Singh in this photograph.

London by Zbigniew Osiowy

This photograph is amazing. The shadow of the tree and the green brick wall make for a beautiful background. On top of this we have all these people who are very neatly arranged. (Even the lady on the left’s shadow fits perfectly in the frame.) The repetition of all the people drinking is a nice final touch. (As is the lady in the scarf.)

Untitled by Laura Rodari

I’m not sure if I like the shot because of her eyes and matching tattoo, or because of the way things are framed to hint at nudity the viewer doesn’t see. The contrast between the rocks and her skin is also quite nice.

Untitled by Luis Torres

The water splits the frame neatly in half: the bottom half clean and barren while the top half is more busy and vibrant. And then there is the women on a street being soaked by a giant stream of water.

Untitled by Tommy Forbes

I love all the bright colours and geometric shapes. (I especially like that her dress matches the yellows in the building, and compliments its blue walls.) The scene is so barren, she really stands out. What really makes the shot is the reflection in the rear-view mirror, which looks to be from some place completely different.

Armani by David Pattinson

What an amazing portrait. I guess it helps when your subject is quite pretty. Her eyes really pull you in. This picture looks like something from the 40s, but thanks to the marvel of modern technology I know it was show on 12 AUG 2010 with an M8.

Untitled by Adam (aka pipeclayed)

The lighting is just right in this photo. The girl really stands out. The hints of red in her outfit really complement the green in the background. I love that the photographers shadow is included in the shot. (This is something repeated in several photos in this series.)

Untitled by Charalampos Kydonakis

All the elements of this image really work well together. The buildings are all in deep blacks, and look quite ominous. They circle the image, drawing your eye to the very macabre face. The background is all storm clouds. I’m guessing this is shot through a window. If so, it’s quite impressive how only the face is reflected through the glass. (And really, it’s impressive the photographer even thought to photograph and frame the scene this way.)

suicabeach by Kohiyama Takahiro

What a surreal photograph. I think people will naturally think of an execution when viewing the image. At the same time, the entire photo is ridiculous: a fellow is going to smack a watermelon with a stick while a boy outfitted to swim looks on. And then there are the thoroughly out of place children’s toys littered on the lower left side of the frame. You can picture this pair playing with them after this scene has played out. This photo is both whimsical and violent.

Untitled by Lukasz Wierzbowski

Can two pretty girls ever blend in to he background? The ugliness of their surroundings makes the two pretty ladies look out of place, while their strange outfits that match the sofa they are sitting on anchor them in the scene. Their bare legs stand out in particular in this shot. I love all the patterns, in their outfits, the floor, and on the sofas they are sitting on.

A well framed and well timed shot. Each element in the shot, each hand and face, is lined up perfectly. There is a real sense of movement towards the middle of the frame. You really feel like you’re digging up the dirt looking at this shot.

What’s interesting...

Photo from Blind Letter by Mikiko Hara

What’s interesting about this photo is what’s not included in the frame. We see an arm, muscular enough we can tell it’s a mans. Her arm is entwined with this one, and she looks to be led by this fellow. The balance of the photo seems off by not including the man, so it strikes me as deliberate. The other fellow in the frame is facing away from the camera, also anonymous. If the lady just behind the lady in the foreground was missing, I think it’d be a stronger picture. All in all I do find it interesting to look at.

Birth 01 by Jonathan Taylor

The symmetry in this photo is quite nice: the two white rectangular bands, two two cops, her two arms, and the way her legs are parted. It all comes together to help the baby really stand out. This is quite the scene to stumble upon. Taylor managed to turn it into a very remarkable photograph.

February by Katarina Smuraga

This is a lovely scene. The couple are both lit by some soft diffuse light. The girl is clearly the focus of the shot. The contrast of her pale skin and blonde hair to the surrounding blues of the room help her stand out all the more. Her pose and wistful expression complete the portrait.
